Shannon Brown: Honoree in the category of Economic Empowerment

Shannon A. Brown is Senior Vice President / Chief HR & Diversity Officer for FedEx Express, the world’s largest express transportation company. As the most senior human resources executive for FedEx Express, Brown provides strategic direction for all human resources practices, policies and operations for the company.

His role includes overseeing global initiatives to develop and retain a highly-talented and diverse workforce, comprised of more than 169,000 employees.

Brown embodies the company’s shared commitment “to make every FedEx experience outstanding” and through his leadership has established a workforce dedicated to delivering the best customer service. During his tenure, FedEx has consistently been ranked on Fortune magazine’s list of the “World’s Most Admired Companies” and Black Enterprise magazine’s “40 Best Companies for Diversity.” His executive achievements also include serving as Senior Vice President of HR for FedEx Ground. He has attained many honors, including FedEx Five Star Awards and CEO Five Star Award.
 Brown was appointed by Tennessee Governor Bill Haslam to the University of Tennessee System Board of Trustees and to the Advisory Board for Western Governors University. He also chairs the International Air Transport Association (IATA) Human Capital Steering Group and serves on the University of Denver’s Board of Directors of the Intermodal Transportation Institute.
He has been named to Black Enterprise magazine’s lists of “100 Most Powerful Executives in Corporate America” and “Top Executives in Corporate Diversity,” as well as Savoy magazine’s “Top 100 Most Influential Executives in Corporate America.” Brown was the feature of a cover story in HR Professionals Magazine for his leadership accomplishments in HR and diversity. His dedication to community service includes the Board of Trustees of Lausanne Collegiate School. Brown is also Chairman of the Board for United Way of the Mid-South. He has served as March of Dimes Executive Champion and received the Crystal Award from the Association of Fundraising Professionals (AFP) Foundation for Philanthropy. Brown is a recipient of the National-Louis University Distinguished Alumni Award and was inducted into the Memphis City Schools Alumni Hall of Fame. Brown’s educational background includes a bachelor’s degree from National-Louis University in Chicago and a master’s degree from the University of Denver. Shannon and his wife, Beryl, reside in Memphis, TN and are the proud parents of two daughters, Shanae and Cailin.
