100 Black Men of Memphis Honor Bernal E. Smith II
The 100 Black Men of Memphis Establish Memorial Scholarship in Honor of the late Bernal E. Smith II
It is with great sadness that we mourn the passing of our past President and Tri-State Defender Publisher, Bernal E. Smith, II. Bernal was a valued member of the100 Black Men of Memphis since 1997, and served as our esteemed president from 2003-2011. Additionally, he was a founding board member of the Memphis Academy of Health Sciences Charter School, established by the 100 Black Men of Memphis in 2003.
Bernal was a transformational leader, recognized for his service, both, locally and nationally. His mission to create a platform where dialogue and collaboration could build equitable economic inclusion will be the cornerstone of his legacy. To that end, the 100 Black of Men of Memphis has established the Bernal E. Smith II Memorial Fund, specifically designated for graduating, African American high school students pursuing bachelor degrees in Business, Communications or Journalism and attending any Memphis area college or university.
Please keep Bernal’s family in your thoughts as they go through this difficult time. His untimely death will be felt by many for years to come.
